Exploring a Bizarre Steam Game Trial: Controlling a Piece of Feces on a Quest to Reach the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and gamers have found a variety of entertaining indie games. But, one catches the eye for its quirky concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game lets you play a character that is literally a piece of poop attempting to navigate to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" means "poop."
The gameplay is straightforward: press a one button to leap. In numerous stages, encounter tough enemies and visit a market to buy skins for your poop character.
Execute your actions with caution, since one mistake forces restarting the level. Bounce off bubbles to launch the poop higher, traverse disappearing platforms, and interact with switches to unlock new areas. Collect UN-KOINS to purchase more difficult levels as gameplay ramps up.
Visually, the game boasts vibrant environments and a killer soundtrack. Its minimalist visual style with shifting abstract forms evokes memories of fans of beloved games like Earthbound.
Although tough to think of previous releases where you control a dung character, interactive entertainment often incorporated scatological themes. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can create throwables from protagonist droppings. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use dung as plant food. Naturally, fecal references shows up a lot in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Despite its humorous concept, Unko Technica has already received notable accolades, including taking top honors at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. The demo is ready at present on Steam, with the final release scheduled to debut on Steam in the fall.
