Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson stated he came dangerously close to a life-threatening incident during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when two safety personnel darted across the track right in his path

The dangerous situation took place on the third lap when safety workers were spotted on the circuit as Lawson was rejoining the race following an early pitstop to replace his damaged front wing

Moments later, the Formula 1 racer Lawson spoke to his pit wall engineer saying: "You've got to be joking? Could you believe what happened? I might have... taken their lives"

"I truly couldn't comprehend what I was seeing"

"I rejoined with a fresh hard compound tires, and then I got to Turn One and suddenly there were two guys running across the track"

"I almost collided with one of them, truthfully, it was incredibly risky"

Track Safety Questioned

"Evidently there's been a failure in communication somewhere but This is the first time I've faced that before, and I haven't previously witnessed that in the past. It's absolutely inexcusable"

"We can't understand how on a live track safety personnel can be permitted to just run across the track in that manner. I don't understand the reason, I'm sure we'll get some sort of explanation, but it really can't happen again"

Governing Body Reviewing

Formula 1's governing body, the International Automobile Federation (FIA), is actively examining the circumstances

"Following a turn one incident, track officials was advised that wreckage remained on the track at the turning point of that curve" declared the FIA

"On lap three, track officials were notified and put on alert to enter the track and recover the debris once the entire field had cleared the area"

"As soon as it became apparent that Lawson had entered the pits, the instructions to dispatch officials were rescinded and a safety warning flag was shown in that zone"

"Our inquiry continues what happened subsequent to that time"
