Keely Hodgkinson Concludes Season with Winning Display at Athlos in New York
The athlete achieved her personal best of one minute 54.61 seconds the previous season in London.
Keely Hodgkinson finished her two-lap season with a triumph at the all-female Athlos meet in NYC on Friday night.
{The current Olympic gold medallist, who secured third place at the global championships last month, excelled in an impressive win in 1:56.53 in what was just her sixth appearance in a season impacted by a muscle issue.
Compatriot and world silver medallist Georgia Hunter Bell took the runner-up spot again in one minute 58.33 seconds, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua M. (1:58.57) secured third place.
"I haven't competed much this season so it was probably less of a struggle for me to compete and want to give it something," said the 23-year-old.
"The environment out there is incredible so it was extremely enjoyable."
The women-only meet packed the stadium in its second year, bringing a party atmosphere to traditional track, with live music and special crowns replacing traditional winners' medals.
The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena Williams, who is married to Athlos founder Alexis O., was present to present the winners with their crowns.
Last year's winners received sixty thousand dollars (£44,603) - among the biggest cash prizes in track and field.
The competition also attracted several top athletes, as the Kenyan triple Olympic champion and world record holder Faith Kipyegon won the mile, crossing the finish line in four hours 17.78 minutes.
American Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze winner from last year's Paris Olympics, secured the 100m and 200m double.
