The US Firm's Autonomous Taxis Coming Soon London Streets Next Year.

The US-based company Waymo has announced that its autonomous vehicles will be available for hire on London's roads beginning next year.

London Becomes Leading European City for Self-Driving Ride-Hailing.

The UK capital will become the inaugural European city to host an autonomous taxi service, comparable with those currently operational in multiple US cities and four other American urban centers using Waymo's cutting-edge systems.

Initial Operations to Commence with Trained Operators.

Waymo stated that its cars are now traveling to London and will start driving on the capital's public roads in the coming weeks with safety drivers in control.

The company – originally created as a derivative from the tech giant's self-driving car program and belonging to the Alphabet family – indicated it would scale up services and work closely with the Department for Transport and London's transport agency to secure the essential permissions to provide totally self-driving trips by 2026.

A more extensive deployment of self-driving vehicles is anticipated in the UK after the related legislation is fully implemented in 2027.

Waymo currently has ties to Britain after establishing its pioneering European technical center in Oxford in 2019.

It is also launching operations in Tokyo using JLR EVs, marking its only other existing project beyond the United States.

Waymo began its driverless cabs in 2020 and presently states it has carried over a vast number of customers in the United States.

Despite some alarming incidents, Waymo indicated that data showed that cars controlled by humans were linked to crashes that injured pedestrians at a much higher rate than its autonomous fleet.
