Thomas Tuchel Expresses Disappointment Over Wembley Fan Atmosphere Despite Dominant Win Over Wales.
The England head coach voiced his regret that the Three Lions team did not receive stronger support from the Wembley fans during their commanding friendly win against Wales on Thursday evening.
The manager was happy to see his team maintain their strong performance, with goals from Morgan Rogers, Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the initial stages settling the game. Yet, he was unhappy with the atmosphere at the national stadium.
“With limited sessions to get ready against a organized team and we excelled,” Tuchel remarked. “It could have been 5-0 up at half-time. We missed the fourth and fifth goals. The stadium was silent. There was no support from the crowd. Our team gave their all to win.”
“How much more can you give in the first quarter? We prevented them escape. When you only hear just the Welsh supporters for half an hour, it’s disappointing because the squad warranted better encouragement today.”
“I support my words. There’s nothing more than being 3-0 in a derby. I hoped for a bit more support in moments where it gets difficult.”
“In the second half, to support us, there was a bit too much support for Wales. It could have helped us to refocus, but that’s the way it went and so be it.”
Squad Decisions Vindicated by Display
Apart from potentially starting a fight with fans, Tuchel also raised eyebrows by omitting Bellingham and Phil Foden from his squad. But the choice was justified by Rogers delivering another standout performance in the No 10 position and netting his maiden goal for his country.
“He plays his game,” Tuchel noted. “He is a No 10 and he is fighting for his position.”
Wales Manager Hopes for Lessons from Defeat
The Wales manager hopes that his team, who face Belgium in a important qualifying match on next week, improve after their poor first-half display.
“This is why I wanted this game,” Bellamy said. “I need to see our current level. What are our ambitions? Who do we want to be? This performance fills me with motivation.”
Fitness Worry for Striker
Ollie Watkins was substituted at the break after hitting a post and is a concern when the national team play Latvia in Riga in a qualifier on next week.
